Union County Sheriff’s Office staff

As your Sheriff, Boyd Rasmussen works hard to communicate with the citizens of Union County in order to provide efficient, effective law enforcement. He emphasizes teamwork within the office and in turn teamwork between Sheriff’s Office employees and the citizens they serve.

Captain Ward, the Sheriff’s second in command, oversees the patrol deputies and is responsible for the office when the Sheriff is unavailable. Reed Waite, is responsible for the operations in the jail. Cathie Falck, Senior Department Specialist, performs much of the grant writing for the office and ensures that daily tasks within the office are completed.

The primary responsibilities for the Sheriff’s Office are maintaining the jail, serving civil process papers, enforcing state laws, and ensuring the safety of the citizens of Union County. The Sheriff's Office is committed to the fight against drugs in the County and has one deputy assigned to the Drug Task Force (MERIT). (The County Commissioners feel that law enforcement is an important part of a safe, livable county and have supported the Sheriff’s efforts by allowing him the funding needed to have well trained, professional deputies both in the jail, and on the road.)

If you are interested in learning more about how the Sheriff’s Office operates, arrange for a ride-along with one of the deputies by filling out and returning an application to the Sheriff’s Office.

Or you may contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office to arrange a tour of the jail. Jail Manager Reed Wait and Lt. Brad Workinger are responsible for overseeing jail operations. It has been said many times that the honest citizens never get to see the inside of the jail.

Ordained clergy, state certified teachers or persons who wish to volunteer to conduct church services, provide educational programs or other counseling services for inmates in the jail may do so provided they pass a criminal background check and meet jail policy requirements.

Upon successful completion of the background check individuals will be provided with an orientation package and be allowed to schedule a time for their service or program. Just follow this link to the Church Volunteer Clearance Application, fill it out and either mail it to the Sheriff’s Office or drop if off at our office.

To apply for full-time employment as a Deputy, fill out and return an application. The application will be kept on file for two years or until an opening occurs, at which time the application will be reviewed.
